Building Healthy Communities Kern works to improve health and opportunity by strengthening community leadership and partnerships. Its activities connect education, environmental conditions, access to health services, and economic inclusion. THRIVE Institute for Inclusive Economies, its economic justice arm, supports community participation in economic planning and investment. Residents, community organizations, and regional partners can connect through leadership activities, education advocacy, organizational support, and cross-sector economic development work.

Community leadership
Develops resident leadership and organizing in Kern County, especially in South Kern communities, helping residents take part in conversations about community priorities and economic opportunity.
Inclusive economic development
Its THRIVE Institute for Inclusive Economies supports community participation in economic planning and investment, builds organizational capacity, and works with regional partners in the Kern Coalition on equitable economic development planning.
Education and health advocacy
Advocates on education, environmental conditions, and access to health services, building collaboration among schools, families, and community partners.
