Center for Land-Based Learning

Overview

The Center for Land-Based Learning helps people build careers and connections in agriculture and natural resource stewardship. Its programs combine practical agricultural learning, job experience, habitat restoration, and community food access. Youth, aspiring farmers, agricultural employees, educators, and employers can explore pathways that connect classroom learning with work in the field. The Farm Manager Apprenticeship brings paid employment, technical instruction, and leadership development together through participating employers.

What they do

Farmer training and incubation

Trains aspiring, beginning, and experienced farmers through hands-on courses on equipment, irrigation, and farm business, and provides beginning farmers with leased land, shared infrastructure, and mentoring in Yolo County.

Agricultural career advancement

Prepares agricultural employees for supervisor and manager roles through paid apprenticeships with farm employers, and offers employer-supported leadership training for Spanish-speaking workers in communication, workplace English, digital skills, and safety.

Youth agriculture and conservation

Engages high school students in habitat restoration on farms and ranches and in paid urban agriculture internships in Sacramento that combine school garden work with career learning.

Community food access
