SF-ADAPT
Overview
SF-ADAPT connects farmers, researchers, nonprofits, and technology developers to create practical tools suited to smaller agricultural operations. Its farmer-led approach lets the people using a technology help shape its design and test whether it meets their needs. Presented through F3 Local, the collaborative network connects technology development with on-farm trials, learning workshops, and demonstrations. Participation depends on the activity and available support.
What they do
Farmer-led technology development
Brings small and medium-scale farmers together with technology developers and researchers to co-create practical tools and test them through on-farm trials, pilot projects, and demonstrations at UC ANR's Kearney research center.
Shared farm equipment
Lends specialized, scale-appropriate farm tools and equipment for short-term use, with training, so small Central Valley farms can try technology before buying it.
Small farm innovation and learning
Runs a competition with cash prizes for practical hardware, software, DIY, and social solutions for small farms, and supports farmer learning through conference stipends, workshops, and peer networks.
