UC Merced — CITRIS
Overview
CITRIS at UC Merced connects technology with agricultural and community needs through drone education, remote sensing, and agricultural research. CITRIS FLY works with schools and community organizations on activities building programming, mission planning, spatial awareness, and critical thinking. Educators can also explore the DUCC drone-training interest route. Its agriculture portfolio links to the Experimental Smart Farm, where research proposals can involve plots, sensors, data infrastructure, and field support. Research access requires university review, scheduling, safety preparation, and relevant agreements.
What they do
Youth drone and robotics education
Brings drone activities to Central Valley schools and community organizations, and teaches San Joaquin Valley middle and high school students robotics and coding with UC Merced near-peer mentors and agtech research examples.
Drone educator training
Hosts a regional drone-training hub for high school and community college educators across the northern and central San Joaquin Valley, Kern County, and neighboring Sierra and inland counties.
Smart farm research
Supports agricultural technology and remote-sensing research at an experimental smart farm, where research projects use plots, sensors, data infrastructure, and field support.
