Ventura County Farm to School

Overview

Ventura County Farm to School supports agricultural, environmental, and nutrition education by connecting schools, gardens, and local farms. It helps educators use school gardens as learning spaces and offers curriculum, farmer learning materials, and cooking and nutrition activities. Through local food connections, Ventura County farmers and school nutrition directors can explore ways to bring farm products into school meals. Community members can also ask about garden and event volunteering.

What they do

School gardens

Supplies school gardens across Ventura County districts with seeds, plants, and compost, and gives educators standards-aligned curriculum and farmer learning materials so students learn about agriculture hands-on.

Nutrition and cooking education

Teaches students about healthy food and where it comes from through cooking classes and garden-based nutrition lessons that use seasonal local produce.

Local food for school meals

Runs a school food hub with Farm Cart Organics that sources produce from Ventura County farms for school meal programs, giving local growers a route into school food markets.
